04 December 2024 – Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) has been put forward by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) to host the IOC Session in 2027. The decision will be subject to a vote by the IOC Members during the 144th IOC Session, to be held in Greece in March 2025.
The IOC EB’s proposal follows the recommendation by the IOC Session Evaluation Commission, led by IOC Member Mr Ser Miang Ng, which conducted a feasibility study on site in October 2024. The visit took place in the presence of the IOC Member in the Dominican Republic, Mr Luis Mejía Oviedo, and the NOC President, Mr Garibaldy Bautista.
The Commission was impressed by the exceptional quality of the world-class facilities, combined with a clear sustainability focus, as well as the strong support from local authorities.
IOC Session
The IOC Session is the general meeting of the IOC Members and the supreme organ of the IOC. It takes all important decisions and votes on proposals put forward by the EB.
The IOC Session is held at least once a year, and in the years when Olympic Games take place, it traditionally precedes them. An extraordinary IOC Session can be convened upon the initiative of the IOC President, or on the written request of at least one-third of the IOC Members.
