POPULAR GAUFF WINS SECOND GRAND SLAM TITLE, HER FIRST ON CLAY

08/06/2025 –  Coco Gauff has won the second major title of her career, triumphing in the women’s singles final at the French Open on Saturday.

Gauff established herself as a very popular player among the Parisian tennis fans when she reached the Roland Garros final in 2022, and despite beating a Frenchwoman in this year’s semi-finals, the 21-year-old HEAD ambassador proved the people’s favourite as she beat the world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

The triumph continues a remarkable rise for Gauff, who reached the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2019 aged just 15. She won the US Open in 2023, and claimed her first Grand Slam doubles title at the French Open in 2024. She has been ranked number one in doubles, and is now firmly established as number two in singles.

“Coco’s victory at Roland Garros is something everyone can be happy with,” said Ottmar Barbian, executive vice-president of HEAD’s racquet sports division. “As well as an impressive tennis player, Coco is a beautiful public speaker with a real perspective for what is important in the world. She is a perfect fit in a company like ours that values all aspects of human endeavour, and we are immensely proud to count her as a member of the global HEAD family.”

After cruising through her first four rounds in Paris, Gauff had a difficult run-in. Many tennis observers said her serve and forehand might let her down in crucial moments, but her force of will and tennis brain saw her through. She has always been comfortable in Paris, not just because the clay suits her game, but she spent some of her childhood at a tennis academy in the French capital. Having a French coach, Jean-Christophe Faurel, has also helped her popularity in Paris!

Gauff is one of the most recognisable women in world sport. She burst onto the scene in a blaze of publicity in June 2019 by beating Venus Williams on the Centre Court at Wimbledon. Since then, she has gone on to impress people on and off the court, and has spoken eloquently on various modern-day topics, notably human rights.
