Focus on gender equality

Milano Cortina 2026 will be the most gender-balanced edition in the history of the Olympic Winter Games, with 47 per cent female participation and the introduction of new events such as the skeleton mixed team and women’s double luge.

Like at Paris 2024, the competition schedule has evolved to bring greater coverage to female athletes, with the women’s cross-country skiing mass start event taking place on the final day of competition and – for the first time – over the same 50km distance as the men, whose event takes place a day earlier.
