Mexican Independence Day in Las Vegas Kicks off a Lively Hispanic Heritage Month

Mexican Independence Day weekend kicks off the month-long Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, both of which are celebrated fabulously in Las Vegas. Also known as “El Grito”—translated to “the scream,” or the cry for independence—the holiday marks Mexico’s freedom from Spain. Hispanic Heritage Month follows, honoring the cultures and contributions of those from all Latin American countries.

Las Vegas is the ideal destination for celebrating the weekend and month, as many of Latin music’s top performers flock to the destination to put on spectacular shows at some of Las Vegas’ most iconic concert venues. Los Bukis continues their run as the first all-Spanish language residency on the Las Vegas Strip, while legends such as Emmanuel and Alejandro Fernández take to the stage—all culminating in an epic weekend of music-fueled revelry.

Mark the Occasion with Latin Music

  • Poncho Sanchez plays Myron’s at The Smith Center on Friday, Sept. 13 and Saturday, Sept. 14.
  • Los Bukis play Dolby Live at Park MGM Las Vegas Friday, Sept. 13; Saturday, Sept. 14; Wednesday, Sept. 18; Friday, Sept. 20; and Saturday, Sept. 21.
  • The 90’s Pop Tour featuring Sentidos Opuestos, The Sacados, JNS, Magneto, Kabah, Caló and Laura León play at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Sunday, Sept. 15.

Celebrate the Holiday in Style

The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas will host a complimentary photo moment for guests to commemorate the holiday beginning Sunday, Sept. 1 and lasting throughout the month. Guests can capture photos under the papel picado, a traditional Mexican decorative craft adorned with elaborate designs. The mall will also again host its annual “El Grito,” a Mexican celebration of freedom in St. Mark’s Square on Sunday, Sept. 15. The lively ceremony will feature a march throughout the destination with a traditional mariachi band and folkloric dancers, as well as a performance from Eli Zamora, contestant on the Mexican and American versions of The Voice.
