Daniil Kvyat returns to the wheel of the #63 LMDh alongside Grosjean and Mortara at Road Atlanta

Sant’Agata Bolognese, 7 October 2025 – The Lamborghini SC63 will contest its final IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race in the GTP class, before the LMDh project is paused for the 2026 campaign, this weekend in the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

Having sat out the penultimate round of the year at Indianapolis, Daniil Kvyat returns to partner fellow Lamborghini factory drivers Romain Grosjean and Edoardo Mortara in the #63 machine, for the 10-hour season finale in Georgia.

In GTD Pro, the #9 Pfaff Motorsports Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 is back to full capacity with Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli joined by the returning James Hinchcliffe. Meanwhile, in GTD, Wayne Taylor Racing’s #45 line-up remains unchanged with Danny Formal, Trent Hindman and Graham Doyle at the wheel. The GTD entry is completed with Mario Farnbacher, Misha Goikhberg and Eric Filgueiras in the #78 Forte Racing Huracán.

Lamborghini has enjoyed significant success in the Petit Le Mans in recent years, most notably claiming its maiden GTD Pro victory at the end of the 2024 season, courtesy of Mirko Bortolotti, Jordan Pepper and Franck Perera.

That breakthrough triumph came just 12 months after Lamborghini achieved victory in the GTD category, with Forte Racing’s Goikhberg, Loris Spinelli and Patrick Liddy clinching a remarkable win. The #78 also narrowly missed out on back-to-back GTD victories last year, leading into the final hour before finishing second.

Optimism is high for the SC63 heading into the final race of the year in the GTP class, having produced its best race performance to date in the Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis last month. The #63 LMDh, in the hands of Grosjean and Mortara, showcased strong one-lap and race pace, aided by a new rear suspension as part of the Evo joker upgrade.

The car ran solidly inside the top five for the majority of the six-hour race and looked certain to record its best-ever finish before a late strategic gamble to pit for fuel backfired due to a badly timed full course caution in the final hour. Grosjean and Mortara had to make do with a 10th place finish.

Revenge is also on the cards for the GTD Pro entry, after contact from another car dented its hopes of a strong finish in Indianapolis. Caldarelli and Mapelli performed admirably in the early stages, running third before losing two laps.

The GTD crews have a similar story to tell. Forte Racing were left licking their wounds after an early penalty for avoidable contact and subsequent puncture hurt their hopes, while a mechanical issue denied the #45 WTR Huracán of a likely podium finish in the latter stages of the race.

Located just north of the town of Braselton, the 12-turn 4.088km track is one of the most demanding tracks in endurance racing with a mix of slow-speed technical turns and fast sweeping corners throughout. The bumpy topography of the track puts both the car and driver under extreme stresses while the constant winding nature of the first sector leaves very little room for error. With its mix of high-speed turns and heavy braking zones, combined with a large grid and finishing under darkness, the Petit Le Mans is one of the hardest races on the IMSA calendar.

Quotes

Romain Grosjean: “The car behaviour at Indianapolis was a big, big improvement and to find ourselves fighting inside the top five for most of the day was a lot of fun. It’s clear that with the new suspension, we made a lot of progress and fighting with the big boys of IMSA was a good step. Hopefully we can put it all together at Petit Le Mans and finish on a high.”

Daniil Kvyat: “I’ve been part of the project since day one and, although we have had some struggles, we also had some successes such as in Le Mans last year where we managed to finish the race in the top 10, and then got into Hyperpole at Fuji. Of course, we’ve always had some limitations with the car which we are starting to address. I am sure that, if we decide to come back in the future, we can unlock even more potential in this car.”

Edoardo Mortara: “The journey for me in the SC63 started last year in Qatar but it was unfortunately quite a difficult season in WEC. We got a bit more competitive at the end of the year, but nevertheless there have been a couple of highlights such as at Le Mans which I started. In IMSA at Indianapolis, we showed great form and ran in the top five all race pretty much which was great, and we can take a lot of positives from that weekend into the final race of the year. We hope to be competitive with the new suspension which seems to be working well, so we hope for a good result.”
