LA28 builds momentum through local and national cooperation

26 June 2025 – The LA28 Organising Committee, led by Chairperson and President Casey Wasserman and Chief Executive Reynold Hoover, has presented an update to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board in Lausanne, Switzerland, highlighting how strong cooperation at both local and national levels is driving momentum in preparations for the LA28 Olympic Games.

The report followed the recent IOC Coordination Commission meeting in Los Angeles and covered progress across operations, security, engagement and commercial developments. Security remains the top priority, with coordination ongoing across local, State and Federal agencies.

The Organising Committee and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) continue to have positive conversations with US Administration officials, as evidenced by the special status given to the Games, and are committed to ensuring that athletes, officials and spectators can experience American hospitality prior to and during the LA28 Games. A “unity of effort” between LA28, the USOPC and the State Department was confirmed to streamline entry into the country, including for pre-Games competitions and support staff such as broadcasters.

Local and national engagement is also increasing. PlayLA, the youth sports initiative supported by the IOC-LA28 agreement to invest up to USD 160 million, has now surpassed 900,000 enrolments. On the national front, Wasserman recently addressed the US Conference of Mayors – representing over 1,400 cities – to present plans for the Olympic Torch Relay, which aims to unite the country by visiting all 50 states.

Looking ahead, several key announcements are expected this year as LA28 approaches the three-years-to-go milestone. These include the full competition schedule, the list of football host cities across the US, and the Games Impact and Sustainability Strategy.
