GURGAON, India, Aug. 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Knot.dating, India’s first AI-powered matchmaking platform, has added an exception to its strict 50 lakh annual salary rule for private-sector men – Class 1 government officers, such as IAS, IPS, IRS, and can now join without any salary bar.

The platform made headlines earlier this year for its bold filter allowing only men earning 50 lakh or more to sign up (with no salary bar for women). The move sparked nationwide debate over ambition, equality, and modern matchmaking standards.

Knot.dating was co-founded by Jasveer Singh and Abhishek Asthana in March 2025 and launched publicly in the month of June.

“We were getting a lot of requests from the families to include Class A government officers – IAS, IPS, IRS etc. who felt unfairly excluded due to a high salary bar,” said Jasveer Singh, Co-founder & CEO of Knot.dating. “Government salaries rarely cross 50 lakh, but these roles come with stability, respect, and influence – qualities that matter in marriage. You don’t measure an IAS officer’s value in just rupees, their position itself is proof of capability and ambition. We wanted to recognize the prestige, stability, and leadership these roles bring, which is why we’re making this an exception, while keeping the 50L+ rule intact for the private sector.”

The decision is already stirring debate. Critics call it ‘preferential treatment‘ for the public sector, while supporters say it recognizes the unique value of a government career in Indian society.

Why the Exception

Knot.dating’s team says the platform values more than just paychecks stability and ambition – life trajectory matters too. “Private jobs can be volatile. A government job signals commitment and security, even if the pay isn’t 50L+,” Singh added.

Backed by marquee investors like 3one4 Capital, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Ritesh Agarwal, Ashish Hemrajani, Kunal Shah, and Ashneer Grover, Knot.dating had earlier raised $3.2M during its Hood journey.
