Foundation for Advancement of Micro Enterprises (FAME) Transforms Dairy Farming for Over 2 Lakh Rural Farmers Across Five States

MUMBAI, India, Nov. 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The Foundation for Advancement of Micro Enterprises (FAME), a ‘not-for-profit company’ has strengthened the livelihoods of more than 2 lakh dairy farmers in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jharkhand through its targeted Dairy Development Program. By tackling critical issues such as poor livestock health, limited veterinary access, low milk prices, and outdated farming practices, FAME is fostering sustainable and profitable dairy enterprises that reinforce India’s rural economy.

The program’s focus is on empowering rural dairy farmers through enhanced technical skills in animal health, nutrition, and breeding, complemented by accessible doorstep veterinary care, vaccination, and modern dairy techniques. Operating in over 300 villages in five states, the initiative strategically prioritises the underserved and resource-limited rural areas to stimulate grassroots economic development and resilience.

“Our commitment is to build a self-sustaining dairy ecosystem by integrating veterinary expertise, market linkages, and technology,” said Mr. Brij Mohan, Chairman, FAME. “These holistic interventions have enabled significant improvements in cattle health, increased milk productivity, and fairer prices, especially benefiting women and marginalised farmers. We are dedicated to scaling these impacts to uplift more rural communities across India.”

The Dairy Development Program comprises five main pillars: expert advisory and breed enhancement by certified veterinarians; free doorstep veterinary services ensuring timely care; Milk Collection Centres (MCCs) established in collaboration with leading milk companies to eliminate middlemen and provide fair, quality-based pricing; FAME Service Centres supplying quality livestock feed and inputs at wholesale prices; and focused artificial insemination programs in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab to enhance herd genetics and output.

Independent assessments demonstrate strong outcomes with 89% of farmers reporting disease reduction, 63% receiving better milk prices, and 74% achieving income growth. Tailored women’s initiatives have led to increased leadership and financial independence among female beneficiaries.

Vakil, a dairy farmer from Meerut, shared, “My buffalo’s daily milk production increased from 8 to 10 litres after FAME’s training and veterinary care. Selling milk at ₹60 per litre now, I earn ₹10,000–12,000 more per month. This income supports my children’s education and improves our cattle shed. I have greater financial security and no longer rely on emergency loans.”

FAME ensures program sustainability through continuous farmer engagement, a repeat–reinforce–renew framework, and digital tools like its proprietary Dairy App for real-time monitoring. The foundation’s evidence-based approach aligns with national goals for rural development, nutritional security, and women’s empowerment, with plans to further expand across India.
