COVID−19 countermeasures for Beijing 2022

Date:

14 Jan 2022 – The organisers of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 are implementing extensive measures aimed at ensuring the safe operation of the event due to start on 4 February.

During a recent World Health Organization (WHO) press briefing on COVID-19, the countermeasures being put in place, involving technical advice from WHO, were discussed. The full briefing with quotes is available here.

A series of Playbooks have been released by the Beijing 2022 Organising Committee, the IOC and the IPC, in close collaboration with the Chinese authorities, laying out the measures in place to prevent increasing risks in hosting or running the Games.

Scientific experts, sports bodies and WHO have been collaborating closely on the safe and successful staging of large-scale sports events, lessons from which have been built into the Beijing 2022 Playbooks and into the implementation of precautionary measures by the relevant authorities.
