ASICS celebrates the city of Tokyo with the unveiling of the TOKYO collection

New collection features two pinnacle running shoes – the MEGABLAST™ and SONICBLAST™ models – alongside refreshed classics, all inspired by the energy, colour, and culture of Tokyo.

[13 August 2025 – Kobe, Japan] – ASICS today announces the launch of the TOKYO Collection, a new range inspired by the unique spirit of Tokyo. Blending the city’s rich heritage with its modern energy, the collection brings together ASICS’ advanced technologies and iconic silhouettes, including two new pinnacle running shoes: the MEGABLAST™ and SONICBLAST™ models.

The collection reflects ASICS’ founding philosophy – Anima Sana In Corpore Sano, meaning A Sound Mind In A Sound Body – and its ongoing mission to get people moving and keep them moving, for body and for mind. Whether through energising bounce, reliable stability or all-day comfort, each product is designed to support runners to feel and perform at their best.

Introduction of FF TURBO™ SQUARED Foam                                             

At the heart of the new MEGABLAST™ and SONICBLAST™ shoes is FF TURBO™ SQUARED foam, ASICS’ latest midsole foam innovation. Designed to deliver a bouncy, responsive feel with effortless cushioning, FF TURBO™ SQUARED foam is approximately 32.5% bouncier than the original FF TURBO™ foam, based on testing at the ASICS Institute of Sport Science*¹.　

The new MEGABLAST™ shoe delivers a superior running experience. Its full-length midsole, made with a new FF TURBO™ SQUARED foam, provides energised bounce while keeping the shoe lightweight and ensuring excellent cushioning. Weighing just 230g*², the MEGABLAST™ shoe pairs its energised midsole with a lightweight engineered mesh upper that offers both elasticity and breathability for lasting comfort. Designed as a dynamic daily trainer, it delivers maximum bounce to support a wide range of running styles, speeds, and distances.

The new SONICBLAST™ shoe is similarly responsive but designed with a more specific focus in mind: to bring out the fun in those shorter, faster runs, from training right through to race day. It combines FF TURBO™ SQUARED foam with a layer of FF BLAST™ MAX foam, one of ASICS’ lightest and most energetic materials, offering cloud-like softness underfoot. Sandwiched between the two foams sits the ASTROPLATE™ component, which helps runners push off the ground more efficiently for a quicker, more responsive feel.

A Full Spectrum of Performance

Beyond the two new models, the TOKYO Collection includes a wide range of ASICS’ most loved running shoes. These include the NOVABLAST™ 5 shoe from the BLAST series, as well as trusted favorites like the GEL-KAYANO™ 32, GT-2000™ 14, GEL-NIMBUS™ 27 and GEL-CUMULUS™ 27 shoes. Each model has been updated with a new Tokyo-inspired colourway, reflecting the city’s colourfulness and vibrant energy.

Design Inspiration

The collection’s colour palette draws from both traditional and contemporary Tokyo. Shades of purple, inspired by the wisteria flower, symbolise hospitality and grace, while bold accents of sunrise red reflect the city’s fast-paced lifestyle and dynamic energy.

The design also pays tribute to the National Stadium, host venue for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025, celebrating the achievements yet to come on this global stage.
