Alibaba celebrates Olympic Day with global activities promoting fitness, inclusion and innovation

24 June 2025 – Worldwide Olympic Partner Alibaba has celebrated this year’s Olympic Day with a series of activities at its offices around the world, encouraging employees to get active and connect with the Olympic values.

Events to mark the occasion included a mini marathon at the company’s Hangzhou headquarters, online fitness challenges and AI-powered engagement initiatives.

Running with robots in Hangzhou

At Alibaba’s headquarters in Hangzhou, more than 2,000 employees, family members and guests took part in a 3.5-kilometre run on a newly inaugurated Olympic-themed sports field. The event also featured 15 AI-powered robots, developed using Alibaba’s cloud technologies, which ran alongside participants to demonstrate new applications of AI in sport.

The run was designed to be inclusive, with more than 200 people with disabilities – including participants with visual, hearing or physical impairments and autism – joining the event with the support of company volunteers, ensuring that everyone could complete the course.

Activities across Alibaba offices

In addition to the flagship event in Hangzhou, employees in 60 Alibaba offices around the world took part in Olympic-themed challenges such as yoga sessions, table tennis matches and strength exercises. In Milan, host city of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, the local team welcomed mascots Milo and Tina for a morning yoga event attended by members of the Milano Cortina 2026 Organising Committee.

In addition to the in-person events, Alibaba launched a number of digital initiatives to promote health and well-being. These included an “AI Marathon”, which invited employees to use generative AI tools to transform personal photos into short, movement-themed videos.

The company has also opened participation to the public through the “Walking Challenge”, in place from 10 June to 10 July, which invites people to log their daily steps through online platforms to earn virtual “medals”. Each step contributes to a fundraising effort to build football facilities for children in rural China. To date, more than 2.3 million people have participated, recording more than 800 million steps.

Olympic Day is a global celebration of sport and getting active. It is held on 23 June each year to commemorate the day the International Olympic Committee was founded in 1894 – the birth of the modern Olympic Games.
